Overcome Your Greatest Challenge Now

What is your greatest challenge right now? Is it your job, your relationship or your health? Is it the goal you want to accomplish for this year?

What if I told you that your greatest challenge is not what you previously thought, rather it is resistance. If you want to make the biggest breakthroughs in your life then you need to change your relationship with the internal and sometimes the external resistance you come across.

Resistance is a powerful force that can either push you forward or pull you back.  It  slows down or stops progress. It is a refusal to accept something or the act of fighting against something that is attacking you.

Have you ever attacked yourself? Was there a time you wanted to do something but did not because a part of you was saying not to do it. Were there times you needed to get out of bed but instead curled up under the sheets because something inside you was telling you that it was better there. It was more comfortable.

I am sure everyone of us has resisted ourselves on several occasions. In fact, most people allow themselves to give in to resistance and destroy their dreams and ideas.  This is one of the reasons why people are living and creating futures they do not want. But why do we do it?

Why do you give in to resistance?

Resistance is a part of our humanness that allows us to survive. In previous times, man was only concerned with surviving, getting food,  finding shelter, and keeping safe from predators, and as the years progressed those ideas of basic survival remained embedded in our brains.

We even resist ourselves from expressing our uniqueness, from being who we were meant to be because we think we survive better when we are in packs. That is how humans managed to survive through time.

We believe it is better to follow someone and do what others tell us to do because doing so prevents us from being ostracized. We fear rejection as much as pain and the unfamiliarity of the unknown.

As social structures and norms were formed and technologies evolved, the need to survive remained to be humanity’s priority. Our brain assures us that our chances of surviving are higher when we  conform to what society wants us to do, or when we are in our familiar and comfort zones.

However, are you really living the life you want when you do not resist? Can you achieve your goals or turn your dreams into realities without resistance?

Think of a time when you did not feel like doing something but you resisted what you felt; you ignored that part of you that wanted you to stay where you were and did what you wanted or needed to do. Did it not make you better? Did it not improve you?

Resistance will always be part of our lives and if we want to grow, if we want to be better then we need to go against some form of resistance. Anything that grows goes up against resistance.

Take a seed for instance, for it to sprout and flourish into a towering tree it needs to overcome the resistance that the seed coat, the soil, and the weather brings. If it does not do so, then it will remain to be a seed until it dries out and eventually dies.

Resistance will always be present in our lives. There will always be a part of you that wants you to stay where you are and another one that would want you to grow into the person you were meant to be.

The question is, who do you want to be? Do you want to be the same person you are and continue to live the way you do and get what you always got or be someone different?

Would it not be better if you were someone more successful, more fulfilled? Someone who had better health, greater wealth and had harmonious relationships with others?

Would it not be your greatest achievement to be who you wanted to be? To express your uniqueness and not conform to what others want you to be?

You have a choice. You can either let resistance pull you back and remain a victim of your past or you can use it to push you to greater heights. You can move through resistance if you choose to. How?

How can you overcome resistance?

If you want to make the biggest breakthrough in your life, then you first need to stop. It is important to pause and look at where you are right now. Nothing improves if you do not stop.

Reflect on what you have done, the things that worked as well as those that did not. What do you need to improve on? Who do you want to become? Where do you want to go? What do you need to do to be there?

Identify the person you want to be and connect with that person. Your connection to your future self will help you move through resistance because he knows it will make life better.

Next is to be aware of the resistance. Know that it is okay to have resistance for it is an opportunity to fuel your growth. Listen to the part of you, the voice that wants you to move away from where you are and improve yourself.

Part of you will always feel like not doing it, but you need to learn to think greater than you feel. You need to look at the bigger picture, the vision of you being more fulfilled.

Listening to and following the voice that wants you to trek the unfamiliar path will not be easy, but through practice it can be easier. Learn to think greater than you feel. Embrace resistance, use it as a positive force to explore new horizons.

Keep in mind that every action, every choice you make and every decision you take is a vote for the person you want to become.

Finding your purpose is another way to defeat the resistance within you. Your purpose can define your life’s meaning because the meaning of life is whatever you choose it to be.

Your meaning in life can be your legacy. Knowing your purpose guides you on the right path to take.  It can prevent you from procrastinating, ruminating, and being distracted. It can give you the courage to move through resistance.

Courage gives you the strength and determination to be different and unique. It allows you to face the fear of rejection and pain. It can boost yourself from your negativities, from self-doubt and feeling not good enough.

Think how the world would be if no one had the courage to move through resistance and be different? Would we have the technology we have today, or even the advancements in medicine if everyone remained to be who they were and conformed to what society wanted.

Do you want to continue to be the person you are today or would you rather make your mark in this world?

Confront the resistance within you and live to your fullest potential. Achieve your greatest breakthrough – be the unique person you want to become. Be a positive impact to others.
